There I was traveling back from Agra to Delhi on eve of this Saturday. Visibility was poor as the bad cold weather was keen to take respite from all of us who have played our part for global warming.I was embedded in my own thoughts when I heard a screeeech and my vehicle came to an abrupt halt with thud.I looked ahead and saw a fifteen year old dude doing acrobats on the road with his bike. His stunts were horrifying me to the hilt. I asked my driver why did he stop so suddenly to which he said that the boy was in no mood to make us pass n whenever the driver tried to over take him;he equipped the middle of the road with intention. We some how managed to cross him but this incident put many questions in my mind.Where ever n whenever a bike accident happens on road;we immediately start cursing the vehicle involved n try to molest him in every possible way. We(public) also try other measures like beating up the driver to death n putting the bigger vehicle involved to fire.We also curse state transport authorities for issuing driving license to such unscrupulous n reckless drivers; We curse PWD department for making bad roads and not maintaining them;We curse civil police personnels for no reason; In fact we curse in every possible way.
Figures speak themselves that most of the casualties which take place on indian roads involve youths in most numbers; Have we ever for once thought what is the root cause of this ? In fact root cause are we;the parents. We always over estimate our kids n succumb to their naive but unreasonable demands from time to time. We take pride in providing them motor bikes in the age where they are not fit n mature for it. Or should we call it ego satisfaction; or the respite in resenting our own parents who never allowed us such leisure; or it is the snob value among our neighbors or society for which we fall. Do we teach proper road manners to our kids? Do we follow the actual age limit regulations laid by our govt.? Do we ever take time to sneak into the private world of our kids for the sake of what they are doing;right or wrong? And do we ever try to get rid of our so called egos. I fear we don’t. And this rigidness of ours sometimes leave us in pool of tears and we again start cursing authorities;system; nation and god. Prevention is better than cure as a famous saying goes. Its high time to rethink on what we have done or doing.
